ARTISTIC PHILOSOPHY

The Search for Transcendent Acoustic Balance

"A concert band is not merely a collection of brass and woodwinds; it is an organic cathedral of sound where every breath is calibrated, every attack unified, and every silence deeply intentional."

Under the dedicated instruction of Lincolnview music faculty, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble approaches each score as a living historical document. Our students engage in deep harmonic score analysis, solfège vocalization, and tone-color experimentation before the first note of rehearsal begins.

The ensemble maintains an active concert season in the Lincolnview High School Auditorium, performing masterworks alongside timeless canons from Grainger, Holst, and Vaughan Williams, proudly representing Van Wert, Ohio.

2026 CONCERT SEASON CANON

Masterworks Program & Movement Program

Adagio con maestria • 80 BPM • Op. 28, No. 1

First Suite in E-flat for Military Band

Gustav Holst (1874–1934) • Master Edition

Holst's revolutionary three-movement suite established the wind band as a serious classical medium. The opening Chaconne's ground-bass theme in the euphonium blossoms through twelve variations into an electrifying, triumphant march finale.

Allegro con brio • Modal Polyphony

Lincolnshire Posy

Percy Aldridge Grainger (1882–1961)

A vibrant tapestry of English folksongs captured via field phonograph wax cylinders. Grainger recreates authentic singers' eccentric phrase lengths and asymmetrical micro-meters in movements like "Rufford Park Poachers."

Moderato maestoso • Very Fast • 132 BPM

Give Us This Day: Short Symphony for Wind Ensemble

David Maslanka (1943–2017)

A profound two-movement work inspired by Buddhist meditation and J.S. Bach chorales. Demands colossal dynamic endurance and features a soaring piano ostinato paired with meditative tubular bells.
